Ian Alistair Gosbee is an award-winning Nova Scotia artist, singer-songwriter, DJ, multi-instrumentalist, actor, author, and creative force with more than three decades of experience in music and the arts.
Known for his honest songwriting, genre-blending sound, and deep commitment to the Canadian music community, Ian has built a diverse body of work that spans country, folk, rock, pop, funk, instrumental jazz, alternative, and hip-hop. His music is rooted in storytelling, resilience, family, small-town memories, and the real-life moments that shape who we become.
Ian’s catalogue continues to evolve with each release. From the heartfelt country and folk-driven songs of Ray of Sunshine, to the instrumental jazz, R&B, and funk textures of Chillax, to his newest hip-hop project Bounce Back, Ian continues to explore new creative ground while staying connected to the honesty and emotion that define his work. Bounce Back reflects themes of growth, confidence, perseverance, hard lessons, and finding the strength to keep moving forward.
Over the years, Ian has earned recognition across Canada and internationally. His accomplishments include receiving the ECMA Honorary Stompin’ Tom Award for Mainland Nova Scotia, multiple Music Nova Scotia nominations, World Songwriting Awards finalist placements, International Singer-Songwriters Association nominations, Josie Music Awards nominations, Elite Music Awards nominations, and recognition through CBC Searchlight. His work has also been recognized through the InterContinental Music Awards, International Impact Book Awards, and other music and writing honours.
Beyond his own music, Ian has contributed extensively to the Canadian music industry as a juror and volunteer with organizations including FACTOR, ECMA, Music PEI, Music NB, Music NS, and the JUNO Awards. His dedication to supporting artists, songwriters, and the broader creative community has been a major part of his journey.
Ian is also an author whose books focus on creativity, songwriting, musicianship, healthy touring, resilience, and mental and emotional wellness for artists. His published works include Songwriting 101: From Inspiration to Composition, Road Fuel: The Ultimate Guide to Healthy Eating on the Road, Sound Mind: Mental and Emotional Wellness for Musicians, and The Show Must Go On, a self-help book for musicians navigating difficult seasons, setbacks, burnout, rejection, and the emotional realities of a creative life. Through his writing, Ian shares practical advice, encouragement, and lived experience with musicians working through the highs and lows of the music industry.
As a DJ, Ian performs at weddings, corporate events, private celebrations, festivals, and community gatherings throughout Nova Scotia. Whether behind the mic, behind the decks, in the studio, or writing a new book, Ian brings professionalism, passion, and a genuine love for connecting with people.
